The Ambrosini Critique
Sharpening my knife
At work, I’ve been trying to convince people that the ability to do something cheaply changes your behavior. If writing is a hand cramping exercise in frustration with a 2 month turnaround time to publication, you become miserly with your words and liberal with your planning.
If you can whip up a column while standing in line for a movie, your writing style changes. Your choice of topics changes. Your direction changes, and maybe you’re more willing to make side trips or detours. It’s as if a million 7th grade English teachers cried out all at once, then went silent.
