Interesting question he raises.
Hobbies like shooting and hunting are expensive. Maybe gun ownership is a signal of greater disposable income rather than a cause of happiness.
Would s/gun/surfboard/g hold true as well?
(edit – just noticed the “holding income constant” bit.)
